This short film is a time capsule; a reflection of a Call to Create in 2020, starring a cohort of nine, finding inspiration and practicing liberation. Part one shares experiences Mother Mercy curates as an arts incubator, and reflects our mission to align spirit work and creativity. This film is about reaching for art-making amid ruins, teasing out our will even when the world has ended. This work is an expression of Mother Mercy’s goal, to protect, teach & grow thinkers and makers. Our methodology includes asking a question to guide the collective process. The answer reveals itself in time, through spirit. This film shares just a glimpse of the process in lieu of an open studio.
JME is the founder of Mother Mercy, an incubator for thinkers and makers in Boston. She received her MFA from Emerson College and is also a Callaloo Fellow. Her work with Mother Mercy is guided by a vision for liberation and combines dedicated art practice with academic, community, and deep self-study. Her own practice crosses the worlds of visual and literary art, and for her, filmmaking and photography are a community’s necessary medium. She is much obliged to serve.
